^ I loves teh FF8 as a legitimate and highly enjoyable game.

Sequels are only bad when they suck so it isn't an issue IMO.

^8 would've been enjoyable had its characters not come from boilerplates, had the story not become so lovey-dovey (FF is about warriors and politicians, not love dramas) and had the gameplay been somewhat more traditional (I think the Draw system was great, but it needs to be more standaloneish). -CSM

You mean the characters were bland you mean?

Granted, the story became mostly "i luv u 4evr" but warriors need motivation too.

Draw, I liked. But it should have been optional/refined.

FF9 was amazing - I think it's fair to say it's my favorite FF game.

And while FF7 gets crap for the 'expansion', I will say that some good things have come from it - though I've only played pieces, I'd say Crisis Core was pretty damn good.

You know what game doesn't get enough love? Tactics. God, THAT is an awesome game. Haven't played Advanced, but the original Tactics (and the remake) are seriously good games.

I have very little FF experience (only beaten VI and tactics Adv. but played I, VII, and VIII), but Tactics Advanced was highly enjoyable for me. It's along the same vein as the Fire Emblem series, so it was up my alley.

I actually liked Final Fantasy VIII, but my favourite part was that it wasn't trying to be all "Ye olde british aisles", more of "Modern fantasy." Which is something I'd like to see more.

I don't like modern fantasies that much, especially when it involves what Final Fantasy is when I started playing it. Take Xenosaga, for example. That game was so complex I couldn't even get past the first hour or so. -CSM

I watched the Laughing Scene. I don't know if I'm ever going to play FF X now.

It's a great game. Yes, the characters suck (sans Auron and Wakka) as does most of the voice acting, as does the story, but it's a VERY fun game to play. One crappy laughing scene shouldn't deter you. -CSM

I actually liked FFX's voice acting. I mean, everyone gives Tidus' actor crap, but he actually does a very good job reflecting Tidus' occasionally whiney, childish character. Yuna's VA was the only one I can't really stomach; everyone elses is a pretty darn good reflection of their character.

From what I understand he actually defends his interpretation in his interviews. Nevertheless I can't stand characters like that, voice acting or not. I couldn't stand Cloud or Squall for similar reasons (although instead of being whiny they came off as jerks). Terra, though an interesting character, was too mental at times to be likeable, although that changes later on. Cecil is definitely caring, although it's hard for me to relate to nobility. That leaves Zidane, and he's just a regular guy with a heart of gold. I can relate to that strongly. -CSM

I wasn't aware Xenosaga was in a modern era...I've been thinking ever since its release it was more sci-fi and futuristic.

Squall's voice acting was done pretty well, IMO. 'Cause he is a jerk.

Seymour's voice was creepy so I liked his voice actor too.
Spoiler.
I really expected him to be the final boss.

I thought about buying it, but I went and bought FFIV instead. I just beat CT a few months ago anyways.

I like the independent remakes of Final Fantasy 1 with the MP system to replace the spells per day.

The 2D games are less detailed and thus have more room for expansion.

I think Final Fantasy VI would technically be good for a Prequel.
Beware! here come the Triple 8 Soildaz!
