I usually edge-guard with Falco's short-hop spike, but if I send them really far, and I don't think they'll recover, I'll edge hog. Can never be too careful.

I rarely Edge Hog. (Reason being I can,t I'm too slow I'll like fall off the edge.) I mainly use Fox and Link when I play. Two completely different players. I should probably practice wavedashing (with Fox at least) But, I love edge guarding. I let them get back to the platform only if I know I've won and feel like toying with them.

By the way, I'm pretty sure most people know this, but an easier way of edge-hogging(Than jumping onto the edge) is turning your back to the edge, and performing a backwards wave-dash. Your character will slide near the edge, drop, and automatically grab the edge. You should be good at wave-dashing before you try this, or you might screw up, and do an aerial dodge off the ledge. =/
